Equinor has announced a new oil discovery, Polynya Tubåen, near its Johan Castberg field in the Barents Sea, with an estimated 24 million barrels of oil equivalent. This discovery, along with the previously announced Drivis Tubåen and Isflak, will be tied back to the Johan Castberg infrastructure to increase the field’s resource base. Production at Johan Castberg began in Q1 2025, and Equinor plans to drill one to two exploration wells annually in the region to maintain production.
