The investigation established that the suspects were carrying out orders for a Russian engineering firm involved in the reconstruction of damaged facilities in the aggressor country, specifically oil refineries subject to sanctions.

The Kyiv-based engineers were developing design documentation for the repair of technological systems and units at the oil refinery. To prepare the relevant drawings, diagrams, and operating procedures, they used the latest IT products.

To communicate with Russian clients, the suspects used private chats in messaging apps and email.

The SSU documented the suspects’ activities and detained them at their residences. During searches, smartphones and computer equipment containing evidence of the crime were seized from the detainees.

The suspects were charged under Part 2 of Article 28 and Part 1 of Article 111-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine-aiding an aggressor state, committed by a group of persons acting in concert.

All three face up to 12 years in prison, with property confiscation.

The Prosecutor General’s Office noted that, according to the investigation, as part of their cooperation with a Russian company, the suspects carried out design and technical work, in particular for enterprises affiliated with the Gazprom Group and other major energy producers in the Russian Federation.
