Deep Tide TechFlow News, March 18 — According to The Block, a cross-party parliamentary committee in the UK has released a report urging the government to immediately ban the use of cryptocurrencies for political donations, citing “unacceptable high risks” to election integrity. The report recommends implementing a binding suspension through amendments to the Representation of the People Act until a regulatory framework is in place.

In its 47-page report, the committee notes that cryptocurrency transfers can bypass traditional financial regulations using mixers, privacy coins, and cross-chain transfers. It also highlights ongoing vulnerabilities in verifying the source of funds when converting cryptocurrencies to fiat currency. The report pays special attention to micro-donations below the £500 disclosure threshold (approximately $667) and points out that AI tools can split large transfers into multiple donations of £499 to evade scrutiny.

According to data from the UK Electoral Commission, the total political donations in the UK are approaching £65 million (about $86.7 million) in 2025.
