【Iran Crisis】Iran's Second-Ranking Official Larijani Killed by Israel, Highest Rank Since Khamenei (Continuously Updated)

Trump responded when asked whether Iran’s foreign policy is more of a priority than China, saying, “Iran is just a military operation, basically over in two or three days because their navy was almost immediately destroyed, then their air force, and their air defense systems. We fly over Iran’s airspace; if we wanted to, we could destroy their power infrastructure within an hour… We could cut off their oil at Kharg Island. The only thing we haven’t destroyed is their oil because if we destroy it (I call it pipelines), it’s very complex and takes time to rebuild. We hope they are a rational group. But whoever manages it, we will work to have someone who can really manage it. It will be a prosperous, wonderful place.”

“And China, that’s a different story. We’re rescheduling meetings, and it looks like they’ll be held in about five weeks. We’re working with China; they have no problem with this. I look forward to meeting Chairman Xi. We have a good relationship with China. China’s economy has become very beneficial to us, which is very different from the past.”

Trump pointed out when responding to the resignation of the U.S. National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent, “I’ve always thought he was a good guy, but he’s weak on security issues. His departure is a good thing because he said Iran is not a threat. Iran is a threat to every country. Everyone realizes Iran is a threat. The question is whether they want to take action on it.”

Kent said he cannot support “sending the next generation to fight a war that benefits no one and dying for nothing.” He posted his resignation letter on social platform X, stating, “My conscience does not allow me to support the ongoing Iran war. Iran does not pose an urgent threat to our country. It’s obvious that the reason we launched this war is under pressure from Israel and its powerful U.S. lobbying groups.”

Regarding deploying ground troops to Iran, Trump said, “I’m not worried at all.”

And when asked whether NATO’s lack of escort assistance might lead to withdrawing from NATO, Trump said, “I don’t have specific thoughts right now, but I will say, when we help them solve Ukraine, if we don’t help in a day, Ukraine is finished.”

Israel announced that during a nighttime strike, they killed Ali Larijani, Iran’s security chief, the highest-ranking Iranian official killed since Khamenei’s death. Larijani has been a key political figure in Iran for a long time, trusted confidant, and core aide of Khamenei.

Tasnim News Agency confirmed the death of Iran’s top national security official Larijani, describing him as an important pillar of Iran’s wartime leadership.

Trump: Uncertain who is in power in Iran, no one says Mojtaba Khamenei is 100% healthy, very unusual

Trump held two speeches at the White House, continuing to share his views on the Iran war. He said that almost all of Iran’s top leaders have been eliminated, leading the U.S. to be unsure who is actually in power in Iran when considering negotiations. He said many people say that Khamenei’s son Mojtaba is severely disfigured, has lost a leg, and is badly injured, even some say he is dead, but no one says he is 100% healthy. “And he hasn’t spoken, no one has seen him. That’s unusual.”

He revealed Iran is willing to reach an agreement, and negotiations are ongoing; but he believes Iran is still under heavy attack and is unsure if they are truly ready to compromise.

However, Iran’s foreign minister denied contact with the U.S. after the outbreak of war. He said the last contact with U.S. envoy Witkoff was before the war started, “Any contrary statements seem to be just misleading oil traders and the public.”

Trump said he doesn’t think the war will end this week, but it will end soon. “I know this will cause oil prices to rise, but compared to allowing them to have nuclear weapons, it’s a very small thing. Do you want to see the stock market fall? Start letting them use nuclear weapons against you. I think that’s a very small price. Honestly, I thought the stock market would fall more because people don’t understand, this is a very high-level chess game.”

Trump said he is currently negotiating with China, but because of the war, he feels he must stay here, “so we asked to delay it about a month.”

Trump said if not for striking Iran, a nuclear war that could evolve into World War III might happen.

Regarding Kharg Island, Iran’s oil hub, Trump said the U.S. military destroyed everything on the island except pipelines. He emphasized keeping the pipelines for Iran’s future rebuilding but warned that if Iran interferes with shipping, the U.S. military can destroy the remaining pipelines in five minutes after notice.

On the Strait of Hormuz, he said the U.S. has less than 1% of oil coming from there, but many countries (like Japan at 95%, China at 90%, Korea, and European countries) depend heavily on this route. He strongly urged these countries to deploy minesweepers and other resources to help maintain the safety of the route. Trump expressed dissatisfaction with some long-term U.S. allies (like the UK and parts of Europe), who hesitate when the U.S. needs ships. He emphasized that the U.S. should not continue playing the world’s policeman without reciprocation.

“Today, it’s much easier to find help than two weeks ago because now their missiles are down to about 8%, drones are down to a small fraction. We destroyed many factories that make missiles and drones.”

“By the way, we don’t even know if we’ve deployed any mines. But the idea that they might do so has scared owners of billion-dollar ships.”

U.S. Energy Secretary: No guarantee oil prices will fall in a few weeks, will strike military facilities before taking control of the strait

U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright told ABC that “there are no guarantees that the war will be short or that prices will fall in a few weeks.” He said, “But I can guarantee that without this military action aimed at weakening the Iranian regime, the situation would be much worse. The Strait of Hormuz is critical to global commerce and energy transportation, and we all see how it affects current energy prices. They have been exploiting this threat for 47 years and continuously expanding their arsenal, making the threat more serious. In fact, if they had nuclear weapons, we would soon find it difficult to weaken Iran. So, this is a short-term pain necessary to transition to a better state.”

He added, “We have planned extremely carefully for possible scenarios in the Strait of Hormuz. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Keane is known for many achievements, but most importantly, he is an expert in meticulously planning for all possible scenarios. So why is Schumer (Senate Democratic leader) saying these things two weeks after the conflict started, trying to undermine the credibility of the U.S. military? That’s… very offensive to me as a patriotic American.”

Pre-conflict allies stored 100 million barrels of oil

“We know there will be short-term disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. In fact, some of our allies, including Saudi Arabia (not the only one), had already pre-stored over 100 million barrels of oil outside the Middle East before this conflict started. This was because they saw the increasing tension in the region and knew that the current U.S. government was determined to resolve Iran’s issues. So, we took many emergency measures. Of course, the broader Trump agenda is to make the U.S. the world’s leading oil and natural gas producer and continue expanding our capacity. So, this is not only to mitigate the impact of current disruptions but also to lead a future where the U.S. is energy dominant, with lower energy prices for Americans and the ability to supply more energy to allies worldwide. But we will face disruptions, and we are indeed facing them now.”

Regarding calls for other countries to send warships for escort, he said, “All countries depend on the products shipped through the Strait of Hormuz. China is at the top of the list, followed by Japan, Korea, and all these Asian countries that rely on energy exports from the Strait. So, it makes sense to build a broad international coalition to work together to reopen the strait. But the top priority now is to completely destroy Iran’s ability to project military power in the region and globally.”

" I believe this conflict will end in the next few weeks, maybe sooner, and then we will see supply rebound and prices fall. But we are very aware of short-term disruptions that will cause slight increases in U.S. gasoline prices. Today’s prices are still far below the levels during Biden’s administration when they begged, bargained, and bribed Iran to behave better. During Biden’s midterm, we saw gasoline at $5. We hope it won’t reach that level this time. But at least this price increase is for a goal that will forever change the geopolitical landscape."

He said, “The main focus now is to destroy their military capabilities, including those military facilities specifically used to threaten the strait. We need to complete these missions first, then you will see the strait reopen soon.”

Sanae Takachi Meets Trump Before, Asked to Send Warships to Escort the Strait of Hormuz

Trump posted on Truth Social, calling on countries to help secure the Strait of Hormuz, specifically mentioning Japan. He said that even if Iran is suppressed militarily, deploying one or two drones, laying mines, or launching missiles is easy. Iran’s Foreign Minister Alaghazi said the Strait of Hormuz is only closed to ships from “enemies.”

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takachi is about to visit the U.S., scheduled to meet Trump on March 19, becoming the first leader to meet Trump among those requesting warship escorts.

Liberal Democratic Party Policy Research Council Chairman Takanori Kobayashi said Takachi needs to understand her goals first and called this the most important issue. “Since Trump’s statements often change significantly, I hope Prime Minister Takachi can see Trump’s true intentions clearly,” he said. While the government does not rule out deploying Self-Defense Forces, given the ongoing conflict, careful judgment is needed. “I think the threshold is very high, but the future development of the Middle East, including Iran, remains uncertain. We will assess these factors calmly and take appropriate actions.”

Trump said, “Many countries, especially those affected by Iran’s attempts to block the Strait of Hormuz, will join the U.S. in deploying warships to keep the strait open and safe. We have completely destroyed Iran’s military capability, but no matter how badly they are defeated, it’s still easy for them to send one or two drones, lay mines, or launch short-range missiles along the waterway or in the waters. I hope China, France, Japan, South Korea, the UK, and other countries affected by this artificial restriction will send ships to the area so that the Strait of Hormuz is no longer threatened by a country that has been thoroughly decapitated. Meanwhile, the U.S. will bomb their coastlines heavily and keep sinking Iranian ships. Anyway, we will soon make the Strait of Hormuz open, safe, and free!”

“The U.S. has already defeated and thoroughly crippled Iran in military, economic, and other aspects. But countries that rely on oil from the Strait of Hormuz must take responsibility for maintaining the route’s security, and we will assist—greatly! We will coordinate with these countries to ensure everything proceeds quickly, smoothly, and properly. This should be a team effort, and it will come true—uniting the world toward harmony, security, and eternal peace!”

On Saturday, less news, Bloomberg reported that after a drone attack and fire on Saturday, the key oil port of Fujeirah in Oman Bay has suspended operations.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Alaghazi said on MS NOW that “it’s obvious that the missile attack on Kharg Island on Friday came from two locations inside the UAE.”

The UAE government said it detected nine missiles and 33 drones launched at it on Saturday, consistent with previous days.

Weekend escalation: Trump first strikes Kharg Island, Iran’s oil hub, claiming Iran has been thoroughly defeated; Houthi forces: Yemen has decided to join the fight

Trump posted on Truth Social at 6:54 a.m. Hong Kong time, “Just now, under my orders, U.S. Central Command carried out one of the most powerful bombing operations in Middle Eastern history, completely destroying every military target on Kharg Island, Iran’s crown jewel. Our weapons are the most advanced, powerful, and precise in the world, but out of moral considerations, I chose not to destroy the oil infrastructure on the island. However, if Iran or anyone else takes action to interfere with the free and safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, I will reconsider this decision immediately.”

“In my first term and now, I have rebuilt our military into the most lethal, powerful, and effective force in the world. Iran has no defenses against any target we want to attack—they are helpless! Iran will never have nuclear weapons, nor the capability to threaten the U.S., the Middle East, or the entire world!”

“Iran’s military and all those connected to this terrorist regime should lay down their weapons now to save what’s left of your country, though little remains!”

Later, Trump posted that “fake news media refuses to report the glorious achievements of the U.S. military in striking Iran. Iran has been thoroughly defeated. They now only want to negotiate, but I will absolutely not accept such an agreement!”

Trump: Mojtaba injured, “some form of alive,” plans to strike Iran again in a week

Global leaders held at least five meetings this week. The latest reports say that during the Wednesday G7 online summit, Trump told leaders that Iran “is about to surrender.” However, within 24 hours, Iran’s new Supreme Leader issued his first public statement, vowing to continue fighting, reflecting Trump’s “misjudgment.”

In an interview with Fox News, Trump said Mojtaba might still be alive but believes he is injured and possibly alive in some form. Regarding Mojtaba’s use of the Strait of Hormuz as leverage, Trump said, “They’ve been talking big, so he has to show real action. We must wait and see because we are heavily striking them. We have destroyed most of their missiles, many of their drones, and their missile and drone manufacturing zones—more than anyone since WWII.”

On escorting oil tankers, Trump reiterated, “If necessary, we will do so. Hope everything goes very smoothly. We will wait and see. Many things… We have already caused serious damage to them; they will need years to rebuild. We will strike them hard again in the next week.”

“Watch what happens in the coming days; this is just the beginning, their new strategy,” he said. “Right now, we are focused on destroying their missiles and drones very hard,” he added. “Progress is very good, far ahead of schedule. We are destroying nearly 90% of their missiles.”

Trump told G7 leaders who claimed Iran was “about to surrender”—

The Iran situation is tense. This week, the G7 held at least five meetings. On Monday, the G7 finance ministers discussed releasing strategic oil reserves, but no final agreement was reached. On Tuesday, the G7 energy ministers met, requesting IEA to provide latest oil stock data and prepare for possible reserve releases. The U.S. suddenly proposed releasing 400 million barrels. On Wednesday, the 32-nation IEA unanimously approved releasing up to 400 million barrels of strategic reserves, the largest in IEA history, more than double the scale of the 2022 Russia-Ukraine war, aiming to offset about 20 million barrels daily lost due to the strait blockade.

That same day, the G7 leaders’ online summit, hosted by French President Macron, included Trump. Trump briefed on the war situation and claimed Iran “is about to surrender.” He also criticized UK Prime Minister Sunak for not participating immediately. European leaders emphasized ensuring the safety of shipping lanes and not easing sanctions on Russia.

On Thursday, the EU energy supply coordination meeting assessed the impact of the conflict on Europe’s oil and gas supplies, ensuring EU countries maintain 90 days of strategic reserves.

On Friday, Trump said he believes Russian President Putin is helping Iran oppose the U.S. and Israel, just as Russia thinks the U.S. is helping Ukraine. On Tuesday, U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff said, “The Russians say they have not shared intelligence with Iran.”
