Edison utility defeats shareholder lawsuit over LA wildfires

Abstract generation in progress

A U.S. District Judge dismissed a lawsuit against Edison International, parent company of Southern California Edison, which accused the utility of defrauding shareholders by misrepresenting its ability to mitigate wildfire risks. The judge ruled that Edison’s statements about its Public Safety Power Shutoff program were too vague to be considered guarantees of complete risk reduction and that shareholders failed to prove Edison claimed perfection. This decision follows a period where Edison’s share price dropped significantly after the January 2025 Los Angeles-area wildfires.
