California Governor: U.S. Military Action Against Iran "Illegal" Public Foots the Bill for High Oil Prices
California Governor Gavin Newsom posted on social media on the 8th and 9th, criticizing the Trump administration’s use of force against Iran, which led to rising oil prices in California and across the United States, causing American consumers to bear the losses. Oil prices in California have continued to climb over the past week. According to daily updated fuel price data from the American Automobile Association, the average price of regular gasoline in the state reached about $5.20 per gallon on the 9th, a two-year high; the average price of premium gasoline was about $5.60 per gallon, and diesel was approximately $5.96 per gallon. Analysts point out that this is the most severe energy market shock since the 1970s, rapidly pushing up retail prices for gasoline and diesel, leading to higher mortgage rates and borrowing costs for the U.S. government, and threatening Trump’s economic policies. High fuel prices could increase the burden on American consumers, potentially becoming Trump’s biggest weakness ahead of the November midterm elections. (CCTV News)
