Smarttech Participates in GTC2026, Multi-Tiered Storage Solutions Enable NVIDIA AI Ecosystem
Silicon Motion Technology (NasdaqGS: SIMO), a global leader in designing and promoting NAND flash memory controller chips for solid-state storage devices, announced today that it will showcase a rich lineup of differentiated enterprise SSD controllers and PCIe NVMe BGA boot SSD products at NVIDIA GTC2026, booth 3015, specifically designed to meet the evolving needs of the NVIDIA AI ecosystem.
As AI model sizes continue to grow, inference architectures are expanding from HBM and system DRAM to high-performance NAND storage layers, as reflected in NVIDIA’s ICMS plans. In this new architecture, NAND-based storage becomes a performance-critical layer that requires deterministic latency and differentiated quality of service.
Silicon Motion offers vertically integrated storage solutions, including advanced SSD controller chip design, complete firmware development, and compact reference design kits (RDK) that meet mainstream enterprise form factors such as E1.S, E1.L, E3.S, E3.L, and U.2, to support AI server deployments. The company also provides enterprise-grade PCIe NVMe BGA boot SSDs with high durability and long-term operational stability for deployment in AI systems.
Wallace Kou, President and CEO of Silicon Motion, stated: “NAND storage is becoming a strategic layer in AI infrastructure. As inference contexts expand, storage must not only offer high capacity but also provide deterministic latency, sustained bandwidth, and predictable quality of service. Controller chip technology is key to unlocking NAND flash performance potential. Silicon Motion’s advanced controller architectures are designed to meet the demands brought by innovations like NVIDIA ICMS, enabling NAND storage to operate as an active, performance-driven layer within the AI memory hierarchy.”
Avery Pham, Vice President of Strategic Operations at VAST Data, said: “AI infrastructure requires tight integration between intelligent data management software and high-performance storage hardware. VAST’s unified data platform consolidates structured and unstructured data into a single, scalable architecture optimized for AI workloads. Flexible, high-performance SSD controller technology, such as that developed by Silicon Motion, is critical for achieving the performance consistency and scalability needed to activate large-scale AI datasets across tiers.”
At GTC2026, Silicon Motion will demonstrate storage solutions optimized for various levels of the AI ecosystem, including:
NVIDIA ICMS–MonTitan SM8466/SM8366 for KV cache expansion
The NVIDIA Inference Context Memory Storage (ICMS) plan highlights the evolving need to extend KV caches from traditional memory to latency-sensitive NAND storage layers. Such architectures require deterministic QoS, strict tail latency control, robust workload isolation, multi-tenant support, and sustained read performance to maintain high GPU utilization.
Silicon Motion’s MonTitan enterprise SSD controller architecture is tailored to these emerging needs. Utilizing the company’s patented PerformaShape technology, the controller can dynamically optimize workload behavior, enhance isolation among concurrent workloads, and manage latency distribution, resulting in stable performance under AI inference workloads with good controllability.
Near-GPU High-Performance Storage – MonTitan SM8466/SM8366
For near-GPU acceleration layers, storage must maintain high bandwidth and IOPS under mixed and dynamic workloads. MonTitan enterprise SSD controllers deliver low latency, strong parallelism, and predictable performance to support inference processing, data staging, and model updates in GPU-accelerated environments.
Compute-Optimized Storage – SM8466, SM8366, and SM8308
In AI compute nodes, storage demands emphasize throughput consistency, durability, and system-level efficiency. Silicon Motion’s MonTitan controllers enhance I/O scheduling, reduce unnecessary data movement, and maintain balanced power and performance under continuous hybrid workloads.
Nearline SSDs and Warm Data Storage – supporting TLC and QLC NAND with SM8366 and SM8388
For capacity-driven AI infrastructure, nearline SSD storage prioritizes high density and cost efficiency. Silicon Motion’s enterprise SSD controllers support TLC and QLC NAND, enabling large-capacity deployment for warm data sets and expanding AI data repositories. Equipped with advanced ECC and comprehensive error management mechanisms, these controllers ensure data integrity and reliable operation in high-density QLC environments, supporting large-scale AI deployments.
AI Server Boot Drive Solutions – Enterprise PCIe NVMe BGA Boot SSDs and SM8008 Controller
In AI data centers, boot storage forms a reliable foundation for system availability and secure operation. Silicon Motion offers enterprise PCIe NVMe BGA boot SSD solutions, designed for compact integration, high durability, and long-term stability, already deployed in AI systems.
The company also provides the SM8008 boot controller chip, enabling customers to develop customized, flexible, and highly reliable boot storage solutions to meet the needs of AI server platforms.
