Wang Yi Visits Vietnam to Meet with Su Lin and Pham Minh Chinh, Says Broad Consensus Reached
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Public Security Minister Wang Xiaohong, and Defense Minister Dong Jun attended the first ministerial-level meeting of the China-Vietnam “3+3” strategic dialogue mechanism on diplomacy, defense, and public security in Hanoi yesterday, and met with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Nguyen Phu Trong.
Trong stated, “The ‘3+3’ mechanism is a joint initiative by the leaders of the two parties, reflecting high political mutual trust between the two sides. It demonstrates that cooperation in key areas has become an important pillar of bilateral relations and will strongly promote the building of a China-Vietnam community with a shared future. Currently, the international situation is complex and volatile, with increasing uncertainties and unpredictable factors. China and Vietnam should strengthen unity and cooperation to safeguard their legitimate interests.”
Trong said, “China is the stabilizing force in a turbulent world. Vietnam has always prioritized its relations with China as a top foreign policy goal and strategic choice. Vietnam continues to firmly adhere to the ‘One China’ policy, supports the four global initiatives proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping, and looks forward to deepening political mutual trust, strengthening strategic alignment, and expanding practical cooperation with China.”
Wang Yi stated that since last year, the highest leaders of both parties have maintained strategic communication, guiding China-Vietnam relations to move forward resiliently amid global changes. During this visit to Vietnam for the first ministerial-level meeting of the “3+3” strategic dialogue mechanism, both sides exchanged in-depth views on the theme of “coordinating development and security, following the socialist path, and working together to address common challenges,” reaching broad consensus. This sends an important signal to the outside world that China and Vietnam, as two major socialist countries, are working together to safeguard political system security and promote national development and revitalization.
During the visit, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Wang Yi and his delegation. Pham Minh Chinh expressed willingness to implement the important consensus reached by the top leaders of both parties and to prepare for the next stage of high-level exchanges. Wang Yi said that China is willing to comprehensively deepen strategic alignment with Vietnam, strengthen cooperation in connectivity, trade, and investment, and implement more projects benefiting people’s livelihoods.
