Commercial vehicles, autonomous driving, and robotics sectors boost Hong Kong stocks; Guotai auto ETF (520720) rises over 2.6% intraday
Commercial vehicle, intelligent driving, and robotics sectors are boosted by positive news. On March 17, the Hong Kong Stock Automotive ETF Guotai (520720) rose over 2.6% intraday.
CITIC Construction Investment points out that in the commercial vehicle sector, since the beginning of the year, the sales of heavy trucks and buses continue to be supported by high export growth. Overall, the first quarter performance is expected to achieve a “good start”; by 2026, heavy trucks and buses are expected to benefit from policies supporting domestic demand and sustained overseas market prosperity. In the passenger vehicle sector, retail sales in February are expected to have bottomed out, with exports (especially new energy vehicles) exceeding expectations. From March, the industry is expected to gradually recover; high-end and export markets remain the strongest drivers of performance. The intelligent driving and robotics sectors focus on developments related to Tesla, with 2026 being the year for the commercial scale of autonomous driving and mass production of humanoid robots. Tesla’s Optimus is set to begin mass production this summer, with potential catalysts around April.
The Hong Kong Stock Automotive ETF Guotai (520720) tracks the Hong Kong Stock Connect Automotive Index (931239). This index selects securities of listed companies involved in complete vehicle manufacturing, parts, and related industries within the Hong Kong Stock Connect scope, reflecting the overall performance of automotive-related securities in the Hong Kong market. The index focuses on the automotive field, especially intelligent driving and new energy vehicles, characterized by high R&D investment and growth potential, with strong market resilience and internationalization features.
