Hong Kong Airport's February air traffic volume increased by double digits
The Civil Aviation Department announced that Hong Kong International Airport handled 5.42 million passenger trips in February, a 20.1% increase year-on-year. The number of aircraft takeoffs and landings was 32,100, a 10.5% increase year-on-year. Cargo throughput for the month rose 11.6% year-on-year to 361,000 metric tons.
On February 22, Hong Kong International Airport recorded a single-day passenger volume of over 210,000, marking the peak during the Lunar New Year holiday period.
In the first two months of this year, passenger traffic and aircraft movements increased by 11.7% and 6.2% respectively, reaching 10.93 million passengers and 66,545 flights. The combined passenger volume for January and February mainly benefited from an increase in transfer/transit passengers, which rose 30% year-on-year. During this period, the most significant growth was seen in passenger traffic between Mainland China and Southeast Asia.
Cargo volume in the first two months grew 8.2% year-on-year to 776,000 metric tons. The overall growth was mainly driven by a 17% surge in transshipment cargo. Export cargo also increased by 7%. Among major trading regions, the most notable increases were in cargo to and from Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East.
