Strait of Hormuz, breaking news! Gold, silver, and US stocks plunging collectively! Crude oil surging dramatically!
In the evening, gold and silver prices plummeted sharply, while oil prices surged. Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei stated that he will not abandon revenge, and the Strait of Hormuz should remain closed.
Regarding U.S. stocks, the three major indices opened lower with significant declines. As of the latest report, the Dow Jones Industrial Average, Nasdaq, and S&P 500 all fell more than 1%.
In Chinese concept stocks, the Nasdaq Golden Dragon China Index rose slightly, up 0.3% at the latest. Among individual stocks, Xunlei gained over 7%, NIO increased 4%, and XPeng Motors rose more than 3%.
In terms of gold and silver trends, spot gold suddenly plunged during trading, turning green as of the latest report, and the gains in spot silver also quickly narrowed, briefly turning green during trading.
Regarding crude oil, WTI and Brent crude oil surged sharply, both up over 8% as of the latest report.
Market focus remains on Middle East developments and the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.
In the Middle East, on the 12th local time, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei issued his first statement since taking office, systematically elaborating on the country’s development direction, regional situation, and responses to external challenges.
Khamenei stated that he will not abandon revenge, and the Strait of Hormuz should remain closed.
He also said all U.S. military bases in the Middle East should be immediately shut down, or they will be attacked.
On the 12th local time, U.S. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said that the U.S. is currently “not ready” to escort oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz.
Additionally, on March 12, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that Russia has developed proposals for mediating the Iran issue but will not disclose their contents. Russia is actively engaging in discussions on this matter.
