Malaysian Police Conduct Large-Scale Seizure of Illegal Mining Equipment, Confiscate 41 Mining Rigs in One Week
Malaysian law enforcement agencies have recently launched a large-scale crackdown on illegal mining activities. According to reports, the Royal Malaysia Police conducted a series of operations in the Teluk Intan area of Perak over three consecutive days, seizing a total of 41 devices suspected of being used for cryptocurrency mining.
Results of the Three-Phase Enforcement Actions
Hilir Perak Police Chief Bakri Zainal Abidin publicly disclosed the specific progress of these operations. The first phase took place on Friday evening, resulting in the seizure of 24 mining devices. Early Saturday morning, police conducted searches at two different locations, confiscating 9 and 8 mining machines respectively. This multi-point, multi-round enforcement strategy demonstrates the police’s ongoing high-pressure stance against illegal mining activities.
Violations of Multiple Laws
It is reported that the illegal mining activities involving these devices violate Section 427 of the Malaysian Penal Code and Section 37 of the Electricity Supply Act 1990. Illegal mining not only involves unauthorized use of equipment but also significantly consumes electricity, putting pressure on the local power grid. Law enforcement’s actions aim to combat these illegal activities that threaten public electricity resources.
Investigation Progress and Next Steps
So far, no individuals have been charged or arrested in connection with this case. Police stated that investigations are still ongoing, with further efforts to verify the sources of these illegal mining devices, the operating organizations, and any involved personnel. This case reflects Malaysia’s zero-tolerance stance toward illegal cryptocurrency mining activities.
