According to CCTV News, on the 12th local time, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei posted four personal photos on social media. In the photos, Khamenei appears relaxed; one shows him standing among a crowd, and another shows him reading indoors. However, the specific time and place these photos were taken have not been disclosed.

@CCTV International News reports that Khamenei was injured in the joint airstrikes launched by the United States and Israel. On the 12th, Khamenei issued his first public statement since becoming Supreme Leader through Iranian media. In the statement, he expressed condolences for the death of his predecessor, Ali Khamenei, and acknowledged the heavy responsibility of succeeding him.

Khamenei began his statement by saying he learned the results of the Iranian expert council vote through Iran’s national television. For him, leaning on the place where Khomeini and the late Ali Khamenei once sat was a difficult experience.

Khamenei said he paid his respects to his father, Ali Khamenei, whose body he saw, “His (Ali Khamenei’s) uninjured hand clenched into a fist.”

He stated that in this incident, the alertness, wisdom, resilience, and bravery demonstrated by the great Iranian nation amazed friends and stunned enemies—indeed, it was the Iranian people who defended the dignity and strength of the country. Khamenei also said that Iran will continue to block the Strait of Hormuz and called on neighboring countries to close U.S. military bases within their borders.

On February 28th, Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei was killed in the attacks by the United States and Israel.
