On March 12, the three major U.S. stock indices declined broadly. Xinhua News Agency, New York, March 12 — The three major stock indexes in the New York Stock Exchange declined significantly on the 12th.

By the close of trading, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 739.42 points to 46,677.85, a decrease of 1.56%; the S&P 500 index dropped 103.18 points to 6,672.62, a decrease of 1.52%; the Nasdaq Composite Index declined 404.15 points to 22,311.98, a decrease of 1.78%.

In terms of sectors, eight out of eleven sectors in the S&P 500 declined, while three rose. The industrials sector and consumer discretionary sector led the declines with drops of 2.52% and 2.21%, respectively. The energy sector and utilities sector led the gains with increases of 0.98% and 0.73%, respectively.
