As global oil prices soar, U.S. President Trump is still insisting that rising energy prices are beneficial for America.

On March 12, Trump posted on social media, “The United States is the world’s largest oil producer so far, so when oil prices go up, we can make a big profit. But what I care about more, and what I think is more important, is stopping Iran, this ‘Evil Empire,’ from acquiring nuclear weapons and preventing it from destroying the Middle East and even the entire world. I will never let that happen!”

At the same time Trump made these remarks, the International Energy Agency (IEA) issued a warning. Due to Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz, the world may be facing the “largest supply disruption in the history of the global oil market.”

Earlier that day, Brent crude oil prices surged by as much as 10%, climbing back above $100 per barrel.
