According to reports from CCTV News and Xinhua News Agency, on March 12 local time, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei issued his first statement since taking office as Supreme Leader; Khamenei explicitly stated that Iran will continue to adopt strategic measures, including blocking the Strait of Hormuz, and will open new fronts if necessary. In a statement broadcast on Iran’s national television, he said: “We have studied opening other fronts that are inexperienced and highly vulnerable to attack by the enemy. If the state of war persists and it aligns with national interests, these fronts will be activated. The measure of blocking the Strait of Hormuz must of course continue.”

A highly deterrent part of the statement is that Iran’s top leadership has thoroughly studied and prepared to open “other fronts that are inexperienced and highly vulnerable to attack by the enemy.”

However, the market currently has no pricing for the potential impact of these “new fronts.”
