Blockchain-based event attendance commemorative token platform POAP will enter maintenance mode and cease active development after nearly seven years of operation. Starting March 16, 2026, new issuers will be unable to create POAPs, though existing functionality will continue to operate, albeit at potentially reduced speeds. The platform originated from the 2019 ETHDenver hackathon and has expanded to include numerous brands such as Adidas and Porsche, with over 6.7 million commemorative tokens issued cumulatively. Co-founder Isabel Gonzalez stated that the model found its market positioning but growth has stalled. Currently, the team is transitioning to develop a new, permissionless open digital commemorative token standard.
