Macron urges Israel
Reference News Network, March 12 According to AFP on March 11, French President Emmanuel Macron called Lebanese President Joseph Aoun on the evening of March 11, urging Israel to “explicitly abandon its ground offensive in Lebanon” and demanding that Hezbollah “immediately cease its attacks.”
Reports say Macron posted on social media platform X: “Hezbollah is forcing Lebanon into confrontation with Israel, which is a serious mistake. It must immediately stop its attacks. Israel, on the other hand, must clearly abandon its ground offensive in Lebanon.”
Israel continues to carry out attacks against Hezbollah in Lebanon. Since Hezbollah launched an attack on Israel on March 2, Lebanon has been drawn into this Middle Eastern conflict.
According to the Lebanese National News Agency, Beirut’s southern suburbs experienced a new round of airstrikes on the evening of the 11th.
Macron also stated that he had spoken with Syrian interim government President Ahmad Shalhoub, and said that the latter “supports the Lebanese government’s efforts to restore full control over its territory.” Macron claimed, “He (Shalhoub) supports Lebanese sovereignty in a way that is completely different from previous positions. This is a guarantee of healthy and constructive relations between Lebanon and Syria.”
The report states that while fighting between Israel and Hezbollah is ongoing, Damascus condemned Hezbollah’s shelling of its territory the night before.
Beirut announced that Lebanese President and Syrian interim government President reached a consensus on the 10th to strengthen control over the shared border between the two countries. (Compiled by Liu Zhuo)
