The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved two months of emergency measures to conserve fuel in view of the regional situation, possible shortages of petroleum products, and growing economic pressure.

During a provincial cabinet meeting, it was decided that several administrative steps would be implemented to reduce unnecessary fuel consumption while ensuring the continuation of economic activities and public convenience during Eid.

According to the Administration Department, all government meetings will be held online by default to promote digital governance.

Provincial and district-level review meetings will also be conducted through virtual platforms. In addition, 100% implementation of the e-office system will be ensured to eliminate the physical movement of government files.

The government has also decided to reduce the use of official vehicles, directing all departments to cut fuel consumption by at least 25%.

However, vehicles of the police, law enforcement agencies, and Rescue 1122 will be exempt from this restriction.

Under the cabinet’s decisions, government departments will be allowed to permit up to 50% work from home without affecting essential services.

Inter-district official travel and protocol will also be reduced, while the use of government helicopters will be restricted to emergencies only.

To reduce expenditures, the purchase of unnecessary furniture and equipment has been banned, while seminars, workshops, and official dinners will remain suspended for two months.

To conserve fuel, public and private educational institutions across the province will remain closed on Fridays and Saturdays, while universities will be encouraged to conduct hybrid or online classes. Decorative lighting in marriage halls, plazas, and markets has also been banned.

The government has also directed authorities to ensure uninterrupted diesel supply during the wheat harvesting season and to strictly monitor fuel stocks at petrol pumps. Legal action will be taken against hoarding and overcharging.
