Japan Launches Antitrust Investigation into Microsoft

On February 25th local time, Japan’s Fair Trade Commission launched an investigation into Microsoft on suspicion of violating the Anti-Monopoly Law. The commission accused Microsoft of charging high usage fees to companies using “Microsoft 365” and other software in their cloud services, which hindered competition in the cloud market. On the same day, the Japan Fair Trade Commission conducted a raid on Microsoft’s Japanese subsidiary in Tokyo. The FTC believes that Microsoft may be leveraging its advantages in the software market to attract customers in the cloud market, prompting an investigation. (Jiemian News)
