University of Chicago professor Robert Pape stated on March 6 during an interview with CBS that the United States cannot achieve regime change in Iran solely through airstrikes, and that this war cannot be ended in the short term. Pape said that the initial airstrikes by the US and Israel did not achieve their so-called “quick and decisive victory,” but instead fueled Iranian patriotism, which will only cause Iran’s new leaders to respond more aggressively against the US and Israel. Pape also criticized the US government for lacking a real strategy to handle potential long-term conflict, merely showing a tougher stance, which does not help end the war. (CCTV International News)
