After more than a decade of development and billions of dollars in funding, cryptocurrency remains a niche product with fewer than 10% of global users, primarily used for speculation rather than everyday payments. The user experience is prohibitive, with complex key management, unpredictable fees, and fragmented interfaces. While speculative activity has raised awareness of cryptocurrency, achieving true mass adoption requires simplifying the technology to be as intuitive and easy to use as sending a text message; prioritizing practical utility over token velocity; and designing with people in mind, not just for developers.
