** TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, February 13.** The Islamic
Development Bank (IsDB) has signed a $70 million financing
agreement with Uzbekistan to support the reconstruction of a major
regional road corridor, Trend reports via the bank.
The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 2nd AlUla
Conference for Emerging Market Economies by IsDB President Muhammad
Al Jasser and Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of
Economy and Finance Djamshid Kuchkarov.
This financing marks a key phase in the IsDB’s broader
commitment of $192 million towards the reconstruction of the 4R40
Dashtabad-Zaamin-Bakhmal-Galyaaral Road Project.
The funds will facilitate the reconstruction of 143 kilometers
of the 4R40 highway, along with the rehabilitation of 30 kilometers
of local and rural roads in Uzbekistan’s Jizzakh Region.
The project is anticipated to alleviate transit bottlenecks,
enhance road safety for approximately 200,000 residents, and
strengthen connectivity along the M39 international corridor,
thereby improving access to markets, social services, and tourism
opportunities.
To date, the IsDB has approved a total of $5.4 billion in
financing for Uzbekistan, highlighting the scale and strategic
significance of the bank’s support for the country’s long-term
development.
