National Committee member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Huang Zhen: Education should "play to strengths" rather than simply "patch weaknesses." Vocational education has great potential in "cultivating people."
Recently, Huang Zhen, a Standing Committee member of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Vice Chairman of the China Democratic League, and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, stated in an interview that education is about “enhancing strengths” rather than simply “fixing weaknesses.” He hopes that education can truly achieve “cultivating people rather than selecting people,” discovering each child’s potential, developing their talents, and guiding them to become useful members of society. Huang Zhen said, “In these areas, vocational education has great potential.”
In the face of green transformation, low-carbon initiatives, digital transformation, and the rapid iteration of AI technology, Huang Zhen noted that industrial upgrading demands higher skills from talent. When discussing the impact of artificial intelligence on education, he believes that in the AI era, we must rethink teaching concepts, training models, curriculum design, and educational evaluation systems. “In an era where knowledge acquisition methods are increasingly diverse, what truly determines personal development are the aspects that AI cannot cultivate or replace—values, aesthetics, and humanistic feelings.”
