Kitchen God Returns to Heaven to Report
Precautions for Sending Off and Welcoming the Kitchen God and Door Gods
The Kitchen God, Door Gods, and these traditions are truly cultural legacies left by our ancestors.
Moreover, if your home is unstable, your health is weak, your house is heavy with yin energy, or family members are constantly arguing, the most appropriate deity to worship is the Kitchen God. He is the most down-to-earth deity in your home.
Once you understand the importance, let's go through the steps:
1. On the 23rd of Lunar December, send the Kitchen God to heaven to report good news. Offerings include Jade Emperor coins, gold foil paper, paper money, and a few sheets of paper—just prepare enough. Also, prepare an incense burner (if you don't have one, you can use a clean paper cup with rice inside) and three sticks of incense.
2. Placement of offerings: If you have a picture of the Kitchen God, place it near the Kitchen God's image; if not, place the offerings on the kitchen table or countertop. The principle for preparing offerings follows the main idea of the first chapter of the Lunar New Year skill post. Usually, three types of offerings are arranged—one each or three of the same kind. You can also add some candies, as deities generally like candies. In total, three types.
3. Sending the Kitchen God back to his palace with good news: the sequence is to wash your hands, rinse your mouth, light three sticks of pure incense, and begin reciting the Kitchen God's Baojiao (sacred scripture).
Sincerely dedicate and bow:
Position: East Kitchen, Director of Fate, Kitchen Lord.
Wonderful offerings, tongue and speech, managing the kitchen. Recording the merits and faults of the human world, reporting to Heaven as scheduled.
Transforming the natural laws of Heaven and Earth, protecting the common people.
Driving away evil spirits and ghosts, sweeping away pestilence and evil.
A family of good fortune, harmony and prosperity for the household.
Morning and evening, uphold kindness and support.
In the Year of Gengshen, observe right and wrong.
Peaceful and auspicious, glorious spirits.
Great compassion and vows, great sage and mercy.
Ruler of fate in the Nine Heavens, Taiyi Yuanhuang.
Determining blessings and eliminating faults, reporting to the Heavenly Respect.
After finishing, recite the Kitchen God Sutra and the Reconciliation Curse:
Kitchen God Sutra
Kneel before the stove, offering blessings and prayers to the Kitchen Lord and Kitchen Lady.
Parents who gave birth to me, your deep kindness I have not repaid.
Many illnesses and disasters, I do not know the sins of my past lives.
Or perhaps I have faults in this life.
Guilt from previous lives, unaware of wrongdoings; sins in this life, unalerted.
No wonder calamities come to test me, and grievances and illnesses torment me.
Hospitals and doctors cannot cure, pharmacies' medicines are ineffective.
Miraculous medicines cannot heal karmic illnesses, sudden wealth is elusive, and fate is poor.
Now, guided by divine instructions, I bow my head before the stove.
Change evil to good, eliminate sins, and repay Heaven, Earth, and parents.
As long as I sincerely repent, I will speak my wishes before the Jade Emperor Hall.
Grant mercy and blessings, avoid disasters, and surely dispel karma and escape calamities.
(Someone's name), sincerely recite the Kitchen God Sutra one time.
Reconciliation Curse
All beings are entangled in grievances, deep and difficult to resolve.
Karmic debts formed in one lifetime, retribution continues for three generations.
Heavenly Respect teaches the wondrous law to dissolve all grievances and karma.
Hear and recite with sincere heart, and enemies will naturally disperse and perish.
Heavenly Net Spirit, Earth Net Spirit, I now sincerely bow and pledge allegiance, all enemies and grievances depart from my body.
It is best to recite this curse three times.
After reciting, you can say:
"Now, disciple... thank the Kitchen God (if your picture has the Kitchen God’s nanny ➕, the Kitchen God’s nanny) for taking care of my home and family this past year. You can also reflect and repent for any mistakes made during the year."
Prepare your name, offer the appropriate offerings, and respectfully send the deity back to his palace.
Express your wishes.
Then, remove the old Kitchen God picture and prepare a clean burning container or basin to burn paper money, Jade Emperor coins, gold foil paper, and other paper offerings. Burn everything together, bow and thank.
4. On New Year’s Eve, early in the morning, respectfully invite the Kitchen God to take his seat and return to his palace. The process is the same: prepare a new picture of the Kitchen God or simply place offerings in the kitchen.
The procedure is the same: arrange offerings, light incense, then recite the Kitchen God Baojiao, the Kitchen God Sutra, and the Reconciliation Curse.
You can also share your wishes for the new year with the Kitchen God and ask for his blessing.
Once everything is done, burn Jade Emperor coins, gold foil paper, paper money, and finally bow to thank him.
