Is Bitcoin mining really that power-hungry? These criticisms are actually unfounded
【Crypto World】People often complain that Bitcoin mining consumes too much energy, and various jokes are flying around. But recently, industry researchers in the crypto sector have responded to these common energy consumption criticisms point by point, providing quite solid rebuttals.
They pointed out that the nine major criticisms of Bitcoin mining have been largely debunked by peer-reviewed academic studies and actual grid data. For example, many believe that the larger the Bitcoin transaction volume, the higher the mining energy consumption—this logic is actually flawed. There is no necessary correlation between the two.
Some also say that mining pushes up electricity prices, which is not tenable. In fact, Bitcoin mining in many cases helps stabilize the power grid rather than raising electricity costs. Miners often operate during periods of excess electricity, helping to absorb wasted power.
Data is even more convincing: the proportion of sustainable energy in the global Bitcoin mining industry has already exceeded 50%. This ratio is not low compared to many traditional energy-intensive industries. The share of new energy sources and nuclear power in mining electricity continues to rise, with wind and hydropower becoming main energy sources.
It seems that those broad “mining pollution theories” indeed need an update in understanding.
