Japanese Finance Minister: Position 2026 as the "Digital Year" and look forward to popularizing digital assets through stock exchanges
Mars Finance reports that on January 5th, according to CoinPost, Japan’s Minister of Finance and Financial Services, Koichi Katayama, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Stock Exchange’s first trading day of the new year, positioning 2026 as the “Digital Year.” Koichi Katayama stated that for citizens to enjoy the benefits of digital assets and blockchain assets, stock exchanges and securities markets need to play an important role, and expressed hope that cryptocurrency and digital assets will be popularized through exchange infrastructure. She pointed out that in the United States, crypto assets have become a means for the public to combat inflation through ETFs (Exchange-Traded Funds), implying that Japan may adopt similar measures. Koichi Katayama also said that as the Minister of Financial Services, she will fully support the efforts of exchanges to build trading environments utilizing cutting-edge financial technology, and looks forward to the stock market reaching new highs this year.
