OpenAI Codex resets rate limits after malfunction again, engineering lead: You guys are used to it by now.

Gate News Report, March 10 — Recently, OpenAI’s AI programming tool Codex experienced instances where some users’ requests went unresponsive. Thibault Sottiaux, head of the Codex project, confirmed on X that the issue had been fixed and stabilized for several hours before announcing that all users’ rate limits would be reset, saying, “You’re probably used to this by now, yes, we’re resetting the rate limits shortly.” This has become a standard practice for the Codex team. The OpenAI status page shows multiple recent service outages for Codex, including “Codex unresponsive,” “abnormal usage consumption,” and “increased error rates in Codex Cloud.” After each outage, the team resets users’ rate limit quotas as compensation. Data indicates that Codex currently has 2 million weekly active users, with a weekly growth rate of 25%.
