When trading options on Gate, you may incur three types of fees: trading fees, exercise fees, and liquidation fees. Below is a detailed breakdown of each fee applicable to crypto options.
Trading Fee
Maker and Taker in Options Trading
A Maker order provides liquidity to the order book. These orders (such as limit orders) are not filled immediately but are placed on the order book to wait for matching.
A Taker order removes liquidity from the order book. These orders (such as market orders or limit orders that fill immediately) are filled instantly against existing orders on the order book.
Different VIP tiers correspond to different trading fee rates.

Note: The trading fee per options contract shall not exceed 12.5% of the option price.
Calculation Formula
Trading Fee = Min(Taker/Maker Fee Rate × Index Price, Max Fee Percentage × Option Price) × Amount
Min refers to the minimum function: Min(A, B) returns the smaller of A and B.
Example
- Type: Call Option
- Strike Price: $105,000
- Amount: 0.3 BTC (30 options contracts)
- Expiration Date: June 11, 2025
- Underlying Asset: BTC
- Order Type: Limit Order (Maker)
- Option Market Price: 666 USDT
When the BTC index price is $102,000, a limit order of 0.3 BTC (30 options contracts) is placed at 200 USDT.
The trading fee calculation in this example:
Trading Fee = Min(0.03% × 102,000, 12.5% × 200) × 0.3 = 7.5 USDT
Exercise Fee
An exercise fee is charged when an option is exercised.
Using a call option as an example: when the settlement price of the underlying asset exceeds the strike price, the option is exercised. The buyer receives the option payoff, and the seller is obligated to fulfill the options contract. Both parties are charged an exercise fee. Only unexercised options and daily options are exempt from the exercise fee.
| Non-Daily Exercise Fee Rate | Daily Exercise Fee Rate | |
|---|---|---|
| Options | 0.015% | 0.000% |
Notes:
The exercise fee per options contract shall not exceed 12.5% of the option payoff. Option Payoff = Settlement Price – Strike Price
Daily options are exempt from the exercise fee. Daily options include same-day, next-day, and third-day options. Weekly, monthly, and quarterly options are not considered daily options.
Calculation Formula
Exercise Fee = Min[Exercise Fee Rate × Index Price, Max Fee Percentage × (Market Price – Strike Price)] × Amount
Example
- Type: Call Option
- Underlying Asset: BTC
- Strike Price: $105,000
- Amount: 0.3 BTC
- Expiration Date: June 27, 2025
- Est. Market Price: $106,000
If the BTC index price reaches $106,000 at expiry, the call option will be exercised.
The exercise fee calculation in this example:
Exercise Fee = Min[0.015% × 106,000, 12.5% × (106,000 – 105,000)] × 0.3 = 4.77 USDT
Liquidation Fee
If your margin is insufficient during options trading, your position will be liquidated, and a liquidation fee will be charged.
| Liquidation Fee Rate | |
|---|---|
| Options | 0.03 % |
Calculation Formula
Liquidation Fee = Liquidation Fee Rate × Amount × Index Price
Example
In this example:
- Type: Call Option
- Strike Price: $107,000
- Amount: 0.3 BTC
- Expiration Date: June 27, 2025
- Underlying Asset: BTC
If you are the seller of the BTCUSDT-250627-107000-C option and the BTC index price rises to $110,000, you are required to add additional margin; otherwise, the position will be liquidated. In this case, the liquidation fee is 9.9 USDT, calculated as follows:
The liquidation fee calculation in this example:
Liquidation Fee = 0.03% × 0.3 × 110,000 = 9.9 USDT
