On June 10, the US Labor Department reported that May CPI rose 4.2 percent year over year, the highest since April 2023 and up from 3.8 percent in April. Energy prices jumped 3.9 percent month over month, accounting for over 60 percent of the headline gain. Core CPI rose 2.9 percent year over year, with a monthly gain of just 0.2 percent, below expectations. Following the data, market pricing for a Fed rate hike this year rose to about 43 percent.
